Preschool Programs

AHRC New York City operates five schools for students ages 3 to 5:

AHRC New York City Preschools are built upon the belief that children with developmental delays have the same needs as all children, and that parents and families are the most important people in the lives of their children. AHRC NYC currently operates five preschools for students with disabilities and some classes for children without disabilities:

Our preschools feature the following types of classrooms:

  • Special Education Classes: for preschoolers with a disability
  • ABA Rooms: for children on the autism spectrum

Our preschool students have access to related services to address individual deficits and needs.  Related services are provided on the recommendations of the child’s Committee on Preschool Education (CPSE) and noted on his or her IFSP.

Related services include:

  • Speech/Language Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Nursing
  • Psychological Services & Counseling

All of AHRC NYC’s preschools are designed for preschool children who have or are suspected of having a disability pursuant to Section 4410 of Article 89 of the Education Law. Specific services provided by these schools are based upon individual child needs which have been determined by the CPSE of the child’s local school district. The school district is ultimately responsible for determining the location where special education services, if necessary, will be provided.

These services are funded by the New York State Education Department
and in New York City, operate with the approval of and under the oversight of
the New York City Department of Education.
