AHRC New York City’s Educational Services department offers a multitude of employment opportunities for people who are interested in teaching children, adolescents, and young adults with autism and other developmental delays. Our schools are located in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Our staff come from all over the New York City area, New Jersey, and Long Island.

Pre-school Program Applicants

Our Preschool staff primarily consists of two separate Teacher roles:

  • Special Education Teacher

    Make a difference in a child’s life as you work in a supportive and nurturing inclusion or self-contained environment; assess students’ needs, and capabilities, and prepare lesson plans.
    Qualifications: BA or Master’s Degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education. Must be certified in Early Childhood Special Education.

  • Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional

    Assist the Teacher in daily activities in a preschool special education class.
    Qualifications: High School Diploma (minimum); one year of Experience in Early Childhood. Teacher Assistant Certification is required for full-time positions.


School-Age Program Applicants

Our School-Age program staff also consists of two distinct teacher roles:

  • Behavior Trainer

Utilizes ABA and TEACCH methods in educating children with autism.  Assess students’ needs and capabilities, and prepare lesson plans.
Qualifications: NYS Certification in Special Education, or eligible; BA/MA in Special Education or Psychology; experience in Applied Behavior Analysis is preferred.

  • Behavior Trainer Assistant

Assist the Behavior Trainer in daily activities in an elementary or middle-high school special education setting for children with autism.
Qualifications: 45 credits in Special Education or Psychology (minimum); AA or BA preferred; knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis/TEACCH is a plus; Teacher Assistant Certification is required for full-time positions.


Our schools all have full-time Speech/Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, as well as Administrative staff. Once hired, staff receive two weeks of intensive training on strategies, methods, and curricula, specific to their future school, to ensure that they are adequately prepared for the environment they are about to enter.
